Things “Yule” Love About a Gas Log Fireplace

When the holidays roll around, the fireplace often becomes the centerpiece of the living room. Family and friends gather around it to tell stories and share memories. Stockings are carefully hung above it. Chestnuts are roasted over it (although we don’t recommend this with gas logs.) It’s even a nice place to conspire after a long walk through a winter wonderland, or so the old song says.

Having a gas log fireplace means you can be cuddled up in front of a warm, cozy fire with just the flick of a switch. They also use clean burning fuels like natural gas and propane which means they are better for the environment and have no clean up unlike wood-burning alternatives.

A gas log fireplace is also much safer than a wood-burning one. With a wood-burning fireplace sparks and embers can fly, burning logs can roll out, and over time your chimney can become covered in creosote which can create a serious fire hazard. Creosote is a dark, flammable tarlike substance that comes from wood smoke and exposure to it can be hazardous to your health.

There are many reasons why we only sell the Peterson brand of gas logs but the most obvious reason is this: they are simply the best. Peterson logs are made in America and come with a lifetime warranty. Not only do their sets produce the most realist flame patterns, their logs are reinforced with steel rods making them extremely durable and certain to give you many years of use.

You will see and feel the difference while sitting in front of a Peterson set because those beautiful logs can put out up to 75,000 BTUs. In case you’re wondering, one BTU is about the equivalent to the heat given off by a lit match. That’s a lot of matches.

Vented Logs

Vented logs are the most common type of logs because of their safety and they are the only type Bradley Mechanical will sell. They utilize your existing chimney to exhaust carbon dioxide and water vapor, two by-products of burning clean gas, making them safer to use than vent-free gas logs. While vent-free gas logs may emit more heat, we feel that the risk of adding carbon dioxide into your home is not worth the extra warmth.
