Automatic Standby Generators

Having an automatic standby generator for your home or business is like having an insurance policy for a power outage. You do not know when you may need it but it will be well worth the investment when you do. An automatic standby generator can provide your home or business with power in upwards of 30,000 watts. This could easily keep things running during a power outage including the heavier appliances like refrigerators and washing machines. It can allow you to maintain comfort and safety levels during emergencies and give you a peace of mind during unexpected power outages and weather-related disasters. It can also help save thousands of dollars in potential lost business. Installing an automatic standby generator also increases the value of your home by over 50 percent of the generator’s cost making it a sound investment in the safety and value of your home.

How does an automatic standby generator work?

Within seconds of a power outage, an automatic transfer switch senses the power loss and engages the automatic standby generator. The automatic transfer switch transfers the electric load to the generator and eliminates the chance of accidentally “backfeeding” electricity into the local power grid. The standby generator is connected to a long-term supply of natural gas or liquid propane eliminating the need for frequent refueling. An internal engine powers an alternator turning the mechanical energy into electrical energy and powering your home or business. When the automatic transfer switch detects power has been restored, it signals the generator to stop and restores the house’s electrical connection back to the grid.
