Our History

Bradley Mechanical HVAC, Plumbing, and Electrical Richmond Location

How We Were Established

In 1969, Dempsey L. Bradley, 34 years old and married with 4 small children, made the decision to start his own company. While working for another HVAC company Mr. Bradley had developed good relationships with many architects and engineers in this area. They were confident in his ability to provide a good job with quality work. So, with a second-hand truck, a good reputation, a wife willing to work in the office, and much prayer, he formed Bradley Mechanical Company.

He started the business with one thing in mind, “If it’s worth doing, it’s worth doing right.” His interests at the time were mainly in new construction, and his first two jobs were additions to St. Luke’s Lutheran Church and Kingsland Baptist Church.

Both of his boys, Brad and Keith, worked in the summers from 14 years old through high school. However, Brad decided he wanted to stay with the company while Keith pursued other endeavors.

In the year 2000, Bradley Mechanical became a corporation with three members. Dempsey L. Bradley, Sr., Gayle G. Bradley, and Dempsey L. (Brad) Bradley, Jr. At this time, Brad began managing the business and showing interest more in the residential line of work. As the company began to grow, Brad’s wife, Sue, became the next family member to join the team.

As of 2013, with Mr. Bradley’s original desire to provide top quality work, the company has grown to 28 employees, holds weekly training sessions, and still has a strong desire to provide the best for all our customers.

2019 was a big year for Bradley Mechanical as we moved to an even larger location in North Chesterfield to support our growing customer base and team members. Despite the tremendous business success, we unfortunately lost our beloved founder Dempsey Bradley at the age of 84, he will be missed!

In 2020, Bradley Mechanical has expanded its team to 65 employees backed by a fleet of 35 service vans—we’ve also added an electrical division to our list of many services. For the past seven years, we’ve been the only HVAC company in Central Virginia with a home performance division that offers comfort solutions using a whole-house approach. This puts us in the top 2% of HVAC contractors nationally.
